Chechnya: A group of people

Chechnya can also be spelled as Chechnia or Chechenia is a republic of Russia. It is situated in the northern flank of the Greater Caucasus close to the Caspian sea. Chechnya is bordered by Russia on the north, it is again bordered by the Dagestan Republic on the east and on the west it is bordered by the Ingushetiya Republic. In the 21st century, the state was devastated with a number of grudging conflicts, mass execution of refugees resulted in the standstill economy.

The main ethnic group of Chechnya is Chechens with the minorities of Russian and Ingush. Both Ingush and Chechens belong to the Muslim community, the two of many Caucasian mountain people and their language belongs to the Nakh group. The Chechens and other tribes resisted Russian conquest for a long period of time in the 1830s. The Chechens remained successful, but the Russians were occupied in the Crimean war.
