A Muslim migrant kills his girlfriend and SIL in response to his wife's request for separation

Late on Friday afternoon, a tragic incident occurred north of Alès in which two women were killed in Salles-du-Gardon, where one of them lived. They were both attacked with knives. Shortly after the attack, a man went to the Alès police station and confessed to committing the murders. He was accompanied by a neighbor, who is also a witness to the incident. The man, who was not previously known to the authorities except for a driving license issue, claimed responsibility for the killings.

He is of Moroccan nationality, aged 40, and subject to an obligation to leave French territory. The man's wife had requested a formal separation from him. The investigation is being conducted by the research brigade of Alès and the research section of Nîmes, and the case is expected to be transferred to the Nîmes prosecutor's office. This tragic incident occurred just a few months after the discovery of the body of an 18-year-old woman in the nearby forest. The number of feminicides in France increased by 20% in 2021 compared to the previous year, with 122 women killed by their spouse or ex-spouse.
